The engineering organization operates as a small, high-impact, agentic-native team, where AI-powered workflows are embedded into every stage of software development.

Role Overview

We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer – Backend & Data to become one of the key technical contributors within the Digital & AI organization.

This person will own the backend and data layer of a new customer-facing application, designing and building scalable backend services, APIs, data pipelines and cloud-native infrastructure that will support future AI and Machine Learning capabilities.

This is a highly hands-on engineering role where the majority of the time will be spent designing, building and delivering production software.

Key Responsibilities

• Backend Engineering

· Design, build and maintain scalable backend services and APIs.

· Develop business logic, service orchestration and integrations.

· Own services from design through deployment and production support.

· Ensure high standards of performance, scalability, reliability and security.

• Data Engineering

· Design and build data pipelines, event streams and analytical data platforms.

· Develop cloud-native data infrastructure using AWS and/or GCP.

· Build streaming solutions using technologies such as Kafka or Kinesis.

· Create the data foundations required for AI and Machine Learning initiatives.

• Agentic AI Engineering

· Use agentic AI workflows as part of the daily software development lifecycle.

· Contribute to improving AI-assisted engineering processes.

· Help define quality standards and guardrails for AI-generated development.

· Promote efficient and secure AI-enabled engineering practices.

• Cross-Functional Collaboration

· Work closely with architects, frontend engineers, product managers, designers and data scientists.

· Participate in code reviews and technical mentoring.

· Collaborate across distributed international teams.

· Contribute to the overall technical quality of the engineering organization.

• Required Experience

· 8+ years of software engineering experience.

· Strong experience building backend services for consumer-facing applications.

· Solid knowledge of REST APIs, GraphQL and event-driven architectures.

· Experience with Data Engineering, including pipelines, streaming and data warehouses.

· Hands-on experience with AWS and/or GCP.

· Experience with Kafka, Kinesis or similar streaming technologies.

· Knowledge of containers, Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD.

· Experience building scalable cloud-native systems.

· Fluent English is required.

· Spanish is considered a plus.
